Week 52 of Brutal U.S./Zionist Crimes
Human Toll of Israel's War of Extermination in Gaza
October 4 marked the 363rd day of Israel's genocide against Gaza. The U.S./Zionist occupation forces have slaughtered 41,802 Palestinians and injured 96,844 in the Gaza Strip according to the latest tally by the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The numbers are likely much much higher as thousands remain either buried under the rubble or unaccounted for, due to the Zionist aggression and inability of civil defense teams to reach the victims because of the systematic destruction of their resources, equipment, and civilian infrastructure. Journalists, health care workers, UN staff and many others have also been targeted by Israel.
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continue to commit massacres and acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip. They committed eight massacres against families in the Gaza Strip over the 24 hours preceding October 3. In these, 99 people were killed and 169 wounded.
Eighteen Palestinians were killed and several others were injured in an Israeli airstrike on the evening of October 3 that targeted a café in the Tulkarm refugee camp, located in the northern occupied West Bank. Israeli warplanes launched at least one missile at the café in the al-Hamam neighbourhood while several Palestinians, mainly women and children, were present.

airstrike on a cafe in Tulkarm refugee camp, October 3, 2024.
An airstrike of this kind by an Israeli fighter jet in the West Bank is unprecedented since the Second Intifada in 2000, Palestinian sources said.
"Hamas considered the Israeli aerial bombardment of the Tulkarm camp a dangerous escalation in the occupation's continuous aggression on the West Bank," Palestine Chronicle reported. The attack was more evidence of Israeli bankruptcy in light of its failure on the ground to break the resolve of the Palestinian people and their escalating resistance, Hamas said.
A comprehensive strike was announced in various governorates on October 4, to mourn those killed by the Israeli occupation army in Tulkarm refugee camp, Hamas said.
Zionist Killers Attack Beirut Southern Suburb for 12th Consecutive Day
Air strikes on Beirut,
Lebanon continue overnight October 4-5, 2024.
On October 4, for the 12th consecutive day, Israel continued its bloody war on Lebanon. At dawn on Friday, October 4, the Israeli occupation army launched the most violent bombing yet on the southern suburb of Beirut, amid news of a new assassination crime. Security sources told Reuters that the Israeli strike on the southern suburb of Beirut was larger than the one that killed Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, during which 83 bunker-buster bombs were launched. Al Jazeera Beirut bureau chief, Mazen Ibrahim, described the attack as the most powerful offensive in terms of its destructive force and the sounds of huge explosions that reached areas outside Beirut. Ibrahim added that the targeted area was a square in the Mareija area which is located in the heart of the southern suburb.
News agencies continue to report that the tanks and troops of the Zionist army are amassed at the border with Lebanon, preparing for a ground invasion. They are nonetheless thwarted by the fact that Hezbollah has 100,000 fighters ready to engage and wipe them out. Furthermore, the failure of the Zionists to wipe out Hamas and the large number of casualties the occupation forces have suffered is also a problem for their morale.
The U.S./Zionist occupation army's large-scale offensive on Lebanon since September 23, has so far resulted in the death of about 1,200 people and the injury of more than 3,000 others, in addition to the displacement of 1.2 million people inside Lebanon and to Syria.
Beirut has a population close to 2 million people and an urban population density of more than 3,500 individuals per square kilometre.
On September 23 alone at least 558 people, including 50 children and 94 women, were killed, and more than 1,800 injured by Israeli forces which are deliberately targeting civilians, ordering their evacuation from densely populated areas and declaring it is targeting terrorists.
Lebanese Health Minister Firas Alabiad announced on October 3 that the death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since October 8 of last year has risen to 1,974, with another 9,384 injured. Alabiad said at a press conference in Beirut that the Israeli onslaught has also claimed the lives of 127 children. They have killed 40 staffers of medical and emergency teams, in addition to damaging dozens of health care facilities, he added.
U.S. Administration Urges Israeli Escalation
Politico reported on September 30 that despite the Biden administration's public calls for a ceasefire in Lebanon, "White House officials privately told Israeli officials that they agreed with the plan to escalate in Lebanon and shift its focus to the north." The report, which cited U.S. and Israeli officials, said the message was delivered by Brett McGurk, the top Middle East official on the National Security Council, and Amos Hochstein, an Israeli-born veteran of the Israel Defense Forces who works as a special advisor for President Biden.
McGurk and Hochstein "relayed to their Israeli counterparts that -– while they still urged a cautious approach -– the timing was likely opportune for such a move, especially after Hezbollah had been significantly degraded in the months prior." McGurk, Hochstein, and other top U.S. officials are describing the war in Lebanon "as a history-defining moment -– one that will reshape the Middle East for the better for years to come," Politico reported.
This adds to the perception that public claims from U.S. officials that they have been seeking a ceasefire in Lebanon and working toward a diplomatic solution are a fraud.

First Anniversary of Al-Aqsa Flood
What Has Been Learned in Past Year
Craig Mokhiber is a renowned specialist in international human rights law. He was the Director in the New York Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) until October 28, 2023 when he announced his resignation to protest the genocide in Gaza and the inability of the UN to stop it. In an interview on the YouTube channel Jadaliyya, he discusses the moment in history which has laid bare the essence of Western power, the disenfranchisement of people and the global rise of humanity for fundamental change.
Mokhiber covers the origins of Zionism and recalls the 1975 UN resolution that Zionism is racism.
He delves into the implications for international law and says that if institutions such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and International Criminal Court (ICC) fail to hold Israel to account they will be finished. He points out that UN institutions such as the UN Security Council (UNSC) and General Assembly need reform but the reforms which are currently being discussed would only result in the equivalent of rearranging chairs on the deck of a sinking ship. They simply do not address the actual problem, he says, adding that if these institutions cannot deal with a genocide being livestreamed in front of our eyes they will not survive.
Mokhiber underscores who bears responsibility for the genocide that is taking place. While Israel is the immediate perpetrator of genocide, complicity is also a separate crime in the UN Convention on Genocide. The U.S., Germany, UK and others are actively complicit by providing arms, intelligence, diplomatic and media support and sustaining the Israel genocide in myriad ways. Western media organizations are also complicit under the international genocide convention.
Mokhiber decries the fact that conceptions inherent to "settler colonialism" and racism are now seen to be "Western values." Israel is promoted as the expression of Western values. Human rights are for "us," who espouse "Western values," not for the "others," who are standing up against the genocide.
In the face of this genocide "Western values" are seen for what they are and they will never recover from it, Mokhiber points out.
Mokhiber points out that the corporate media is legally accountable too under the genocide convention. Any attempt to claim that they do not know what is happening is not credible, he says. They are consciously misrepresenting, denying, disinforming which makes them legally accountable and complicit. He references historical precedents established during the Nuremberg Trials and Rwanda Genocide Trials.
In terms of what comes next, Mokhiber says that in the immediate term the situation is headed toward more terror, more horrific violence. The movement for Palestinian freedom, for an end to genocide, end to apartheid is growing and it will prevail. Where it heads in the long term is yet to be seen. The proposal for a two-state solution is in reality finished, he says. There is nothing left for a two-state solution which cannot resolve any of the key questions such as the rights of the Palestinian nation, the right of return, compensation, and many more basic matters.
The Resistance Movement is the most important development and trend today which insists on new international law which holds the perpetrators of genocide accountable.
