Deplorable U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Women’s Right to Abortion and Health Care
People Across U.S. Denounce Attack on Women’s Rights
The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 213-page ruling, overturned the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade on June 24, which means that there is no longer a constitutional right to an abortion. Now states will decide when and if abortions can occur, with some having outright bans under any circumstances. Twenty-six states already have laws that will criminalize doctors and health care providers who provide abortions, forcing many to close down or cancel appointments.
There are thirteen states that have “trigger” mechanisms in place, meaning their laws will go into effect immediately or within days. These are: Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. Others have civil-war era laws that can now be utilized. Such an open and reactionary attack on women once again shows that U.S.-style democracy is not only racist and anti-worker, but thoroughly anti-women.
This Supreme Court ruling of the “greatest democracy” is an attack on the Right to Be of all. People across the U.S. are holding massive demonstrations and saying No! Everywhere they are demanding their rights and refusing to go back. Below are photos of some of the actions.
