Education Workers Issue Demands
On June 23, the day before Premier Ford named his cabinet, education workers represented by the Ontario School Boards Council of Unions presented Ford with their own demands for their wages and working conditions.
Some 25,000 members of CUPE’s school board division from across Ontario signed the open letter to the Premier. They are demanding proper funding for education which permits real wage increases for education workers in the face of inflation, and more education workers in schools.
The open letter was signed at workplaces across the province. It reflects the mobilization of education workers to stand up for their wages and working conditions, which are students’ learning conditions. The demands of these front-line workers also show what is required post-pandemic by the working people.
