NATO Madrid Summit and War Exercises in Asia Pacific

No to NATO’s “New Strategic Concept”! Dismantle NATO!

Information pickets and rallies have been convoked in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Collingwood, Oakville, Hamilton, Waterloo, Winnipeg, Regina, Vancouver and Victoria to oppose the NATO Summit taking place June 29-30 in Madrid. The pickets and rallies will also express opposition to the U.S.-led Rim of the Pacific war exercises (RIMPAC) in the Asia Pacific that start June 29 and run to August 4.

Canada is working in lockstep with the U.S. in promoting NATO expansion and arming it to the teeth in Europe to isolate and crush Russia. It is also participating in the U.S. brinkmanship and provocations against China which endanger the peace in the entire Asia Pacific.

The NATO Madrid Summit has an agenda of marshaling the human and material resources of NATO members and “partners” for U.S.-led aggression and war, targeting first and foremost Russia and China. The U.S. and NATO are refusing to permit a negotiated peace settlement in Ukraine. This is unacceptable.

The Madrid Summit will also signal an expansion of NATO’s field of operations into the Asia Pacific. With 25,000 troops, 38 surface ships, four submarines and 170 war planes from 26 countries, including Canada and other NATO members, RIMPAC 2022 is “a full scale exercise.” In fact it is the largest international maritime warfare exercise the world has seen.

Both these events are matters of serious concern in a relentless march to aggression and war to impose the United States as the global power that sets and arbitrates the so-called rules-based international order. This is in contempt of international law and the UN Charter and is in fact opposed by the majority of countries in the world which are bullied and threatened in myriad ways to comply with it.

The NATO Madrid Summit and RIMPAC 2022 are acts of aggression and provocations against all humanity that escalate military tensions around the world that could trigger another World War. All peace and justice-minded people in Canada are called on to speak out and oppose NATO and the interference of the U.S. in the Asia-Pacific in which Canada is participating.
