U.S./NATO Expansion Identified as Cause of Conflict in Ukraine
President Maduro of Venezuela
Venezuelan President Maduro has consistently condemned the destabilizing activities of the U.S. and its NATO military alliance in Europe. In the current situation, he accused the U.S. and NATO countries of pressuring others with bribes and threats to join the U.S./NATO campaign of lies and disinformation regarding the causes of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In a readout of a recent telephone call with President Putin of Russia, Maduro praised Russia’s “decisive actions” and emphasized the importance of countering disinformation on the Ukraine crisis. He is reported to have said western leaders and media outlets have accused Russia of starting an “unnecessary” fight when facts show U.S./NATO have boxed Russia into a corner with no escape except to defend itself and fight.
Maduro called for strengthening his country’s strategic partnership with Russia and pushing forward with joint projects. The two leaders agreed to continue making contacts and exchanging delegations at various levels of their governments.
