New Laws to Block 55 Million from Voting
In the U.S., while conditions are demanding that people move from the Right to Elect to the Right to Govern, a concerted effort is being made to deprive millions of people of their right to vote. This is done through various means, such as stricter requirements for registering, restricting times and places to vote, restricting use of mail-in ballots — used far more given COVID — and more.
In the U.S., rules and laws concerning voting are made at the state level and vary state to state, making voting unequal from the start. In addition, just in 2021, 34 laws in 19 states have made it even more difficult for large numbers of people to vote. Black and Latino people eligible to vote are especially targeted to block them from exercising their right to vote. It is estimated that close to 55 million people will lose their right to vote under these laws. While conditions demand the people’s Right to Govern and decide affairs of society, the ruling elite is attacking the people by further taking their Right to Vote away.
