Cuban President’s New Year’s Message to the People
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel greeted the Cuban people on the occasion of the New year, saying, “We reach 2023 after overcoming together one of the most challenging years in Cuban revolutionary history.
“As we push open the door of 2023 we feel deep inside the strength of the historical legacy that drives us towards the new year without fear and without doubts but always aware that things could be even more difficult.”
He said that Cubans are summoned to continue to meet the challenges by the certainty that the people’s creativity is infinite and that their achievements were accomplished not by going backwards but by rising to the occasion. “Everything we resisted and created in the most challenging year is proof that it can be done. Time and time again it can be done,” he said.
He noted that 2023 will be another challenging year, and therefore a compelling situation to all revolutionaries. He called on everyone “to work with passion and desire to continue overcoming the impossible.
“Let us advance over the blockade until it becomes impossible for its architects to hinder our progress. We are all summoned to this work. Let us all together make a better country. Let us realize our dreams here, where we learned to dream.”
He concluded by saying that it is the Cuban people themselves who guarantee the sustainability of the just achievements of the Revolution, according the maxim of José Martí that “patriotism is a holy duty when one fights to create the conditions in our homeland for the people to live in greater happiness. Let this be our sacred endeavour. I count on all of you. Let hope come.”
