Discussion No. 2: Need for Modern Definitions
It is imperative not to become stuck in old dogmas based on a social arrangements that no longer exist or no longer serve the interests of working people. To observe some negative symptoms and draft a programmatic call to eliminate them is not enough. What is needed, first and foremost, is to work out a modern perspective, a modern definition of progress, a modern conception for the high road of civilization. The building of this perspective is the recognition of the interests of the working class and broad masses of the people and of society itself, CPC(M-L) affirms.

Discussion No. 3: The Need for Theory
CPC(M-L) elaborates the need for theory today, pointing out that theory has a place in life because life is nothing other than human beings struggling with nature and society. Theory establishes the vital relationships among human beings, and between nature and people. In theory’s absence, it is not possible to carry on modern life.

Discussion No. 4: Modern Communism
CPC(M-L) points out that the key thing in the elaboration of modern communism is not to take up what constitutes the “right-wing” and the “left-wing” but to provide the problems that history gives rise to with solutions which open society’s path to progress. This is why the key thing in modern communism is the sharpening of the struggle between the New and Old. It is the struggle between the working class and the bourgeoisie — between the epoch of the working class, socialism and communism, which is still coming into being and the epoch of the bourgeoisie, which is passing away.

Visiting Cuba
by Hardial Bains
This book includes three essays. In his first, Visiting Cuba – 1992, the author expresses his views concerning the “Special Period,” the name for the circumstances in which the Cubans have had to fight to survive, starting with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the countries of Eastern Europe. The second essay, Turning Things Around in Solidarity with Cuba – 1994, is the fruit of the inspiration and experiences shared by the author at the First World Gathering of Solidarity with Cuba. The third essay, Visiting Cuba – 1995, gives Hardial Bains’ reflections on the “Special Period” during the course of a journey. “It would look like a fantasy or an illusion if it were not such an obvious and moving reality that the author is able to explain in its essence and dialectic with such objectivity.”
