August 1
On August 1, the Charest government called a provincial election for September 4 as part of its refusal to address the social crisis in Quebec and to isolate the students. Students were prepared and were out in force in Premier Charest's riding on July 31 to press their just demands and oppose the government's neo-liberal agenda. Amongst the parties participating in the election was the Marxist-Leninist Party of Quebec, which on August 1 issued a communique calling on Quebeckers to occupy the space for change and announcing it would run 25 candidates.
