Worldwide Opposition to U.S./Zionist Genocide Continues Undeterred

As the Palestinian Resistance and the Resistance movement in Lebanon continued to inflict significant losses on the U.S./Israeli forces during October the worldwide movement to condemn the U.S./Zionist genocide in Palestine and aggression against Lebanon continued unabated. The peoples' stands show, that as Israel fails to defeat the resistance forces in Palestine, Lebanon and elsewhere, the disinformation of the Zionists and that of governments and media of the Genocide Cartel and attempts at criminalization are also failing to demobilize all those who are standing up for the just cause of the Palestinian people.

Many demonstrations took place on the anniversary of Al-Asqa flood and also to denounce the October 17 killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and express support for the Resistance forces on that occasion, confident that the resistance would get strengthened in the fight to end the occupation once and for all.

On this occasion, we recall the words of a representative of the Palestine Youth Movement at a demonstration in Montreal on September 28:

"In the past year we, the people of Palestine and the broader Arab and Muslim world, have lost a lot. We have lost loved ones, families, leaders, and the Palestinian struggle is no stranger to losses and sacrifice.

"We have seen genocide, ethnic cleansing, forced displacement ... our people dispersed worldwide. We have seen those who confront the occupation thrown in prisons, our people forced into refugee camps across the Arab world.

"But we have been taught that when one leader falls, a thousand rise in their place!"

The events to mark the one year anniversary of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and one year of Israeli genocide continued through the first half of October. Israel continues to run amok in Gaza with ever more base depravity and atrocities. This was underscored when Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) on October 14 bombed the tents of those seeking shelter and receiving medical care at al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Deir al-Balah area in the central Gaza Strip. Emergency actions were held throughout that week in Canada and around the world to denounce this crime.

Since October 5, all eyes have been on Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, when the IOF's siege began and continues to the present, with the aim of depopulating and occupying northern Gaza.

Several hundred people gathered at the Human Rights Monument in Ottawa at 2:00 pm on October 12, relentless in speaking out for Palestine and demanding an end to Canadian complicity in genocide. Before the march, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Youth Movement said:

"There is devastating news from Gaza. Journalists on the ground reported that northern Gaza has now been declared a military zone by Israel, another tragic move towards the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. The Minister of Health in Gaza has alerted the world that the Israeli forces ordered the evacuation of three makeshift hospitals in the northern region. Patients and medical workers were instructed to leave immediately. One hospital was given just 24 hours to evacuate, with the chilling words that anyone remaining, patients and staff, would be shot. Despite the fact that the 24 hour deadline hadn't even passed, Israeli forces began attacking the hospital. Drones were used to fire at the hospital and at the people around it. The Zionist regime has also increased its assault on Lebanon. In recent days, it has killed 2,000 civilians and displaced hundreds of thousands.

"But Gaza and Lebanon are not just places of tragedy. They are places of resilience, of fierce defiance in the face of occupation. For every bomb dropped, every life stolen, they resist. The people of Gaza and Lebanon continue to exist, to breathe, to love and to fight for their dignity, and this is why we are here today. We're here to honour the lives that have been lost, the families torn apart and the communities shattered. We're here to demand justice. Let us remember the names of those who are no longer with us, but let us all carry the spirit of the Resistance. We will not forget, we will not stop fighting. Lebanon will rise, Gaza will rise, and Palestine will be free!"

An emergency protest was held in Ottawa at 4:30 pm on October 15. People gathered in front of the Israeli Embassy to pay tribute to 19-year-old Sha'ban Al-Dalou who was burned alive along with his mother in an Israeli airstrike on a Gaza hospital camp. People denounced Canadian and U.S. support for the Zionist State of Israel and pointed out that without this support, it would be nothing.

A spokesperson for the Palestinian Youth Movement asked: "How can the Canadian government keep supporting the Zionist entity?" She stated that the blood of Palestinian martyrs including Sha'ban is on the hands of the Canadian government. People marched through the streets of Ottawa, marking 374 days of ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and expressing their unconditional support for Palestine and their faith in the Palestinian Resistance.

An All Out for Gaza! demonstration was held in Ottawa on October 19, in front of the Prime Minister's Office, with contingents from Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa with wave upon wave of Palestinian flags to boldly assert that the killing of the leaders of the Resistance will not deter the people but strengthens their resolve.

Speaking to the fact that Prime Minister Trudeau keeps repeating the false claim that Israel has the "right to defend itself," one of the speakers said: "He has the audacity to congratulate the terrorist entity whenever a Resistance fighter is martyred. This country still chooses to fund this genocide, despite the fact that the occupation has over half a million people under siege with no food and water entering the region and while three hospitals have been placed under siege, while dropping bombs on civilians. Occupation snipers are targeting people on the streets in northern Gaza because anyone on the streets, including children and babies, are considered 'active militants.'"

Another speaker demystified the claim that Israel is a force too powerful to overthrow and explained that the killing of Resistance leaders will not stop the Resistance: "We remind them that history is not written by those who surrendered. History has been shaped by those who rise and resist, even at the cost of their lives. Time and time again, the leaders of our Resistance have stood with dignity in their final moments, showing the world that you can kill a man, but you can never kill the spirit of a people. From March 22, 2004, to October 17, 2024, we have witnessed the martyrdom of fearless, noble leaders who paved the path of Resistance with their blood, leading us Palestinians ever closer to a free Palestine, from the river to the sea."

About 4,000 protesters gathered at the U.S. consulate on October 20. They condemned the U.S./Zionist genocide against the Palestinians and their ongoing attacks on Lebanon, and loudly proclaimed their commitment to go all out to put an end to U.S./Israeli crimes.

Many organizations joined the protest organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, including a large contingent of trade union members with their flags flying proudly, including Steelworkers, Ontario public sector workers, library workers and others. Fred Hahn, president of the Ontario Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, spoke on their behalf, reaffirming the commitment to speak out for the Palestinian people despite sanctions from the powers that be, and to heed the call of the Palestinian workers that acting in solidarity with Palestine is a critical matter for all workers.

During the march through the streets of downtown Toronto speakers also emphasized the importance of unity of the people, regardless of background, to not permit the Genocide Cartel to cause splits in the movement.

Others declared that despite the brutal destruction and targeted assassinations, and the nefarious plans of the Zionists to expand the war, thousands more will join the fight, because "we have something to fight for."

Hundreds of people gathered in a militant action that began at Union Station on October 26. Speakers emphasized that the weekly actions are greatly encouraging to the people of Gaza and Lebanon who hear of these events in Canada and around the world. Chanting slogans denouncing the U.S./Zionist attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the Israeli airstrike against Iran, marchers proceeded through downtown to the U.S. consulate. Speakers condemned the U.S. and Canada for their support for the Israeli genocide against the Palestinians and for blocking a ceasefire and peaceful resolution that upholds the rights of the Palestinians. The march then continued, lasting four hours, with participants encouraged to step up their actions, talking to neighbours and friends and co-workers in support of the Resistance.
