On this day, the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada expresses its deepest sympathies to the relatives of all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 in the terrorist attacks on the United States. It expresses its highest regards for the herculean feats carried out by the rescue workers and condolences to the families of rescue workers who perished.
The Party pays homage to the countless numbers who have been killed in the so-called “war on terror” unleashed by the administration of George W. Bush in the aftermath of 9/11 and carried out by subsequent U.S. administrations. The Party condemns the role played by the government of Canada and other U.S. “allies” and the NATO aggressive military alliance led by the United States in the aftermath of 9/11.
On this occasion, we also recall the atrocities carried out against the people of Chile as a result of the U.S. coup d’etat against that sister nation in 1973. We express our deepest sympathies and respect for all the relatives of those killed and disappeared in that country and in Argentina and other sister nations as a result of Operation Condor and the subsequent dirty wars in Central America. To this day, the U.S. continues to carry out similar crimes in the name of high ideals and Canada plays the role of handmaiden. It must not pass!
The MLPC reiterates its opposition to the use of torture, rendition to torture, indefinite detention, indefinite states of exception, “security certificates,” imposition of unreasonable limits on civil liberties and sanctions regimes. We express our support and sympathies to all who have suffered egregiously at the hands of those who justify such practices in the name of high ideals and have usurped the power to act with impunity.
On this occasion, we salute the peoples of Canada and the world who have fought and continue to fight against war and for justice and the affirmation of rights. We reiterate our commitment to support and contribute to the resistance of the peoples of the world to imperialist wars of aggression and occupation led by the U.S. imperialists and their aggressive NATO alliance in which Canada is a war party.
On this day, most important is to take a stand which clearly upholds the experience of the peoples of this country and the entire world that Our Security Lies in the Fight for the Rights of All and that we need anti-war governments. After all the crimes committed against the peoples of the world, after the total defeat of the stated objectives of committing aggression against Afghanistan as well as other countries, after it has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that economic sanctions are acts of war which violate human rights and contribute to the commission of genocide against entire peoples, the U.S. imperialists and their appeasers in Canada act as if they have emerged successful, as if their missions are righteous. They think their performance in Afghanistan provides convincing proof that the peoples of the world should submit to the U.S. as the indispensable nation.
The many documentaries and memorials on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 show the crimes the U.S. has committed. They underscore Canada’s dirty role in appeasing the U.S. and carrying out the crimes itself.
Canadians have honourably fought against all mandates to act with impunity, all wars of aggression and justifications for the commission of crimes in the name of high ideals. They have stood fast against renditions to torture, the Guantanamo torture centre and all black ops. They have opposed and continue to oppose the use of so-called security certificates and violations of civil and human rights, criminal sanctions regimes and demagogy in the name of democracy, peace and freedom in order to serve narrow private interests.
This fight is far from over. The MLPC calls on all working people to embark on a clear path which gives rise to an anti-war government in this country and makes Canada a zone for peace.
