Ontario Election 2022
“A Good Time to Empower Ourselves!” Says Independent Candidate in Windsor-Tecumseh
Laura Chesnik is a worker politician running as an independent candidate in the June 2 provincial election in the riding of Windsor-Tecumseh. A teacher, she is also host of the national podcast Education Is a Right as well as national spokesperson for the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada (MLPC) on matters related to education. She is well qualified to represent Windsor-Tecumseh based on her proven commitment to upholding and championing the rights of teachers, education workers, parents and students as well as health care workers and all those who produce the goods and services we depend on for our living. She is also a known advocate for injured workers, for the right to be of all people by virtue of being human, and the hereditary rights and justice for Indigenous peoples. Laura is a member of the Windsor Peace Coalition which advocates for Canada to be a zone for peace in the world by getting out of NATO and ending the integration of Canada’s economy into the U.S. war economy.
Laura’s campaign issued a press release announcing her candidacy. The main issue she is addressing in this election is the need for workers to speak out in their own names. She calls on them to set the agenda for the economy themselves in a manner that upholds the rights of the working people, not the entitlements of the rich. The press release explains:
“Laura is encouraging everyone to get involved in her campaign to contribute to empowering themselves in the election itself. She does not think it helps the workers to participate in factional fighting which undermines the unity the people require to solve the problems they face.”
Laura’s campaign takes up the agenda put forward by Premier Doug Ford when he called the election saying it was required to provide the government with a mandate for the post-COVID recovery. She calls on the workers and people of Ontario to set the post-COVID agenda themselves.
“This election is a time for all of us to speak out about what the COVID-19 recovery should look like. Together, let’s identify the interests of the working class and people. Let’s champion a democracy where it is the people who decide all matters that concern them,” Laura says. She adds:
“From our industries in Windsor to the Ring of Fire in northern Ontario and everything in between, let us speak out in defence of the rights of workers, women, youth and students, and people from all walks of life and uphold the hereditary rights of the Indigenous Peoples. This is the force needed to humanize the natural and social environment! This is a good time to participate in an election in a manner that empowers ourselves!”
Throughout the election, Laura’s campaign will elaborate positions that favour the working people on all matters of concern. She opens her website to all who want to discuss the matters which concern them, whether they are in her riding or not. Far from being hermetically sealed off from the rest of Ontario, Windsor-Tecumseh is one of the key border points on the transportation and security corridors between Canada and the USA. This makes the role played by the workers, youth and students and population of the Windsor area key to the present and future of not only Ontario but Canada itself.
