Liberal/NDP Cartel Party Government Submits Federal War Budget
Cynical Ploy Claims to Offset War Spending
with Social Spending
Riding the state-organized war hysteria, the Liberal/NDP cartel party government is raising military spending by $8 billion. This continues the process to meet the U.S.-led NATO demand for Canada to increase annual military spending to $25 billion. Much of this is to purchase U.S.-produced war material such as F-35 fighter jets and other expensive military equipment. The money is also to push U.S./NATO expansion eastward in Europe and into the Arctic and Asia to position the U.S./UK/Canada/Australia/New Zealand axis for war with Russia and China. The money is also to pour war material into Ukraine to keep the bloodshed going, stop any momentum to negotiate an end to the conflict and continue the pattern of U.S. imperialism to destroy whatever it cannot control, as it has done in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. Overall, the increased military budget, which includes more money for the U.S./Canada military alliance NORAD, ensnares Canada more firmly in the grip of the U.S. war economy, war preparations and active wars.
The NDP in the most cynical way says the increased war budget is offset with some spending on social programs. NDP leader Jagmeet Singh’s pleading is a sorry excuse for his party’s lack of principles on the question of war preparations. As is the case with most issues involving opportunism and deal-making, they do not involve principles but “balancing” between good and bad, left and right, spending and restraint. The issue of principles and providing real problems with real solutions is lost in self-serving “balancing” to pay and serve the private interests of the rich in one way or another. The workers are to buy into the budget and ignore the war spending and war preparations because of social spending, which is not analyzed as to its purpose and consequences, and at most raise the feeble complaint that “it does not go far enough.”
The cartel parties in Parliament are fully caught up in the anti-Russian hate and war propaganda that clouds the context of the war in Ukraine and excuses U.S./NATO from any responsibility. In fact, Canada’s integration into the U.S. war economy is being cemented through the fomenting of hate against commercial competitors and enemies in Russia and China. This includes the emphasis on war spending, securing energy resources and critical minerals for U.S. war preparations that Canada has in abundance, and north/south secure travel corridors. All these issues are under the control of the U.S.-centred global oligarchy not the peoples of Canada or the United States.
The vassal status of Canada was fully on display with the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, Chief Financial Officer of the Chinese technology company Huawei, in 2018. Before her arrest on charges of violating U.S. “global” sanctions against Iran, U.S.-based tech oligarchs had demanded Canada ban their competitor Huawei from Canada’s wireless networks. This foreshadowed the anti-Russian hate and criminalizing of wealthy Russian businesspeople and the seizure of their private assets in the present U.S./NATO war hysteria. The ethnic hatred being fomented has even sunk to the level of banning Russians and Belarusians from participating in the Boston marathon. Canadians have seen this imperialist hatred since colonial Canada began with the dehumanizing of Indigenous peoples, Chinese, East Indians, Germans, Russians, Ukrainians, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese and any others the colonial marauders and warmongers have sought to dispossess and annihilate.
Canadians should denounce this Liberal/NDP cartel party war budget as a road we do not want to travel. Canadians want a new direction for the economy and politics in opposition to the U.S. war economy and endless wars. Canadians want to solve the social and other problems confronting the people, not engage in imperialist war preparations with the greatest warmongers on earth. Canadians want an anti-war government that mobilizes the people and resources to make Canada a zone for peace.
Denounce the Liberal/NDP War Budget!
Dismantle NATO and NORAD!
U.S. Troops, Military Equipment, Homeland Security Personnel and
Border Guards Out of Canada!
Bring all Canadian Troops, Navy and Air Forces Home!
