Ukrainian President Appoints Neo-Nazi Commander to Administer Odessa
The Kyiv Post announced on March 2 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Col. Maksym Marchenko as the new head of the Odessa Administration.
Marchenko was a commander from 2015 to 2017 of one of the neo-Nazi army formations, the Aidar Battalion, whose war crimes in the Donbass were reported by Amnesty International in September 2014.
The Aidar Battalion is not only one of the groups that led an assault on the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine, including in the Donbass but was also used to attack the anti-coup protests in Odessa. The crushing of the protests culminated in the torching of the Trade Unions House and the deaths of 46 people trapped inside on May 2, 2014.
