96th Anniversary of Founding of Communist Party of Viet Nam
February 3, 1930
Red Salute to the People of Viet Nam and Their Communist Party!
On the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) warmly greets the fraternal Vietnamese people and their Party.
Ninety-six years ago, on February 3, 1930, the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) was founded by the legendary Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh. The Party was founded at a time when the people of Viet Nam faced the most brutal oppression and exploitation under French colonialism.
Under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh and the CPV, the Vietnamese people drove out the Japanese militarists, proclaiming their republic in September 1945, then handed the French colonialists their final defeat in Indochina at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The CPV then led the people to defeat the brutal aggression of the U.S. imperialists when they took up from where the French left off.
The people of Viet Nam, led by the CPV and with heroism and great sacrifice, made a historic contribution to the anti-colonial anti-imperialist struggles of the world’s peoples for peace, freedom and democracy and laid the foundation of the new Viet Nam. In all of this the Communist Party of Viet Nam was tempered and emerged steeled as the recognized leader of the Vietnamese people’s striving for independence, self-determination and prosperity.
The anniversary of the founding of the CPV this year is especially significant as it closely follows the successful conclusion of the party’s 14th National Congress in Hanoi on January 23.
At the webinar organized by the Canada Vietnam Friendship Society on February 1 to mark the 96th anniversary, special guest Pham Cao Phong, former Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Canada and now Executive Vice- President of the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association, underscored the significance of the Congress as an expression of the unity of the Party and the Vietnamese people. He pointed out that more than 5 million Vietnamese people including Party members and others, including Vietnamese living abroad, contributed 14 million views and opinions to the CPV during the month-long public discussion of the Congress documents in October 2025. These opinions and contributions were substantially expressed in the Congress Resolution and Action Plan which were adopted unanimously.
Ambassador Phong also noted that the Congress affirmed that the Doi Moi economic reforms implemented by the Party 40 years ago to meet the needs of the people and the nation have achieved major and comprehensive goals including continuously improving living standards and people’s well-being, while enhancing the country’s credibility and standing in the international arena. He pointed out that the Congress Resolution and Action Plan adopted at the 14th Congress were a concrete blueprint by which Vietnam will work to achieve its overall goals of ensuring the security and well-being of the people and the country and transforming Vietnam into a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Party’s founding, and into a developed country with high income by 2045 when Viet Nam will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its independence.
The prestige of the Communist Party of Viet Nam ever increases. By the time of its closing session, the Congress had received a total of 898 congratulatory letters, messages and statements of support and solidarity from 167 political parties, 17 international organizations, 78 individuals, 242 political organizations, friendship organizations, people’s organizations and foreign friends, and 394 associations of overseas Vietnamese.
