All Out to Support Migrant Workers
Join Actions September 12-15 Against Racism and for Immigrant Justice!
The Migrant Rights Network (MRN) has called for days of action to uphold the rights of migrant workers. Below are excerpts from the MRN’s call to action.
“Rent is skyrocketing, wages are stagnating, and the cost of groceries continues to climb. The politicians and corporations responsible for this crisis are trying to distract us by blaming migrants.”
|
The MRN informs that the federal government is imposing a growing number of restrictions on migrant entries which “include capping study permits, barring most permit holders from bringing their families, limiting permanent residency, imposing visas on Mexico, slashing work and study permits, refusing to renew permits for graduated international students, and increasing visa denials. Policies that would protect migrant rights, like the regularization of undocumented people, have been sidelined.”
Pointing out that a strong, united response is needed to stop the scapegoating of migrants and that public education and mass organizing are crucial, the MRN is organizing actions in Charlottetown, Edmonton, Moncton, Ottawa, Peterborough, Sudbury, Toronto and Vancouver, just before Parliament returns.
The MRN states:
“We need thousands to take to the streets across the country to say no to racism, demand permanent resident status for all migrants and equal rights for all.
“Here’s how you can help:
— Join or organize a contingent: If you’re near one of the action cities, rally your staff, volunteers, members, and friends to join in the streets.
— Speak up on social media: Share why you’re joining and organizing others to take action.
— Amplify the call to action online: (Share on Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook)
— Distribute materials: Download and share posters, flyers, and graphics; and send emails to your lists.
Divided we fall; united we win for all. Let’s make these actions massive!”
