Birth Anniversary of Fidel Castro
Fidel’s Revolutionary Example Inspires Millions to Fight for Sovereignty and Uphold Principle
On August 13 we mark the 97th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro, legendary leader of the Cuban Revolution and Cuba’s revolutionary nation-building project. In a tribute to Fidel at the time of his death, millions of Cubans signed the oath to the “Concept of Revolution” which Fidel declared on May 1, 2000. The oath concludes; “Revolution means unity; it is independence, it is fighting for our dreams of justice for Cuba and for the world, which is the foundation of our patriotism, our socialism and our internationalism.”
Today, as the Cuban people face a period of unprecedented hardship due in the main to the illegal and unjust U.S. blockade, Fidel’s life continues to inspire them.
Fidel’s revolutionary spirit and profound generosity lives on in the workers, youth and students, health professionals, intellectuals and teachers who have proven their revolutionary mettle as they overcome any difficulty to continue living a life of dignity and freedom. Inspired by Fidel and led by the Communist Party of Cuba, the Cuban people are rallying around their revolutionary nation-building project to take up the tasks needed to overcome all the difficulties and to safeguard it as the guarantor of their human rights. They vehemently reject the U.S. imperialists’ attack on their human rights through the blockade, and the disinformation that seeks to blame the Cuban government for the blockade’s destructive effects and violation of rights.
As Fidel and after him Raúl, made sure to know in great detail the difficulties facing the people and see to it that they were empowered to resolve them, so too today, members of the National Assembly of People’s Power led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the Communist Party, are working as one with the Cuban people to review all the socioeconomic conditions they face, to systematically improve manufacturing, the production and distribution of food, energy and more and find creative solutions to the problems the people face.
As Fidel stated in his 2000 May Day Speech:
“Revolution is the sense of the historical moment; it is changing everything that must be changed; it is full equality and freedom; it is being treated and treating others as human beings; it is setting ourselves free with our own efforts; it is defending the values in which we believe at the cost of any sacrifice…”
Fidel was an exemplar of revolutionary spirit and fidelity to principle. His example continues to guide and inspire the Cuban people on the road to guarantee their sovereignty, independence and human dignity.
The life and work of Fidel Castro also lives on in the hearts and minds of millions of people throughout the world who are fighting for justice, dignity and freedom. Worldwide opposition to the illegal U.S. economic and financial blockade of Cuba once again confirms that the world stands with Cuba and it is the U.S. which stands alone, not Cuba.
¡Hasta la Victoria Siempre, Comandante! ¡Venceremos!
