Interview: Campaign for Peace on the Korean Peninsula
On the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the Gwangju People’s Uprising, Laura Chesnik of Empower Yourself Now conducted the following interview with Sooyoung Hwang, Secretary-General of the Korea Peace Appeal Campaign. Launched in 2020 the campaign aims to involve as many people as possible in demanding: an end to the Korean War and to establish a peace agreement; the creation of a Korean Peninsula and a world free from nuclear weapons and the nuclear threat; to resolve the Korean conflict with dialogue and cooperation instead of sanctions and pressure; and to break from the vicious cycle of the arms race and invest in human security and environmental sustainability.
The interview covers background about the existing armistice of the Korean War and Canada’s use of warships to patrol Korea’s borders. To find out more about the campaign and sign its petition visit: en.endthekoreanwar.net/appeal
