Cubans Celebrate Anniversary of the Revolution’s Triumph
Cuba celebrated the 64th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution with mass cultural festivities focused on dance, from January 1 to 8 in neighbourhoods and communities across the country, the Ministry of Culture informed, under the motto: #JuntarYVencer (Join Together and Overcome). Hundreds of organizations dealing with culture, art, dance, community projects and amateur artists put their weight behind making the events a success and engaging people of all backgrounds and ages.
According to the president of the National Council of Houses of Culture, Diango González, the primary aim of these initiatives was for the festivities to reach the communities and territories, based on their own conditions and possibilities, with the aim of making all of Cuba dance, in one way or another, either with recorded or live music.
As part of the launch of activities on January 1, the National Ballet of Cuba held a gala, under the direction of the prima ballerina, Viengsay Valdés, in the Avellaneda room of the National Theatre of Cuba. The show brought together selections of classical ballets in the well-known versions by Alicia Alonso, that were also offered to the public on the January 6, 7, 8, 14 and 14.
Cuban diplomatic missions and Cubans living abroad also held events to mark the occasion, alongside friends and supporters of Cuba.
Various activities were held across Cuba in late December that also marked the anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.
