Secretary, International Relations
Dear Comrade Luciana, Members of the Central Committee, Party Members;
The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) sends revolutionary greetings and congratulations to the PCdoB on the magnificent 100th anniversary of the Party’s founding. One hundred years of fidelity to the cause of humankind’s emancipation; one hundred years of dedication to meeting the challenges of every historical moment with success — some more challenging than others, including this one; one hundred years of struggles and sacrifices which have brought forward the very best daughters and sons of the brave Brazilian people; one hundred years of contributing to the creation of a modern Brazil which upholds the rights of all.
Congratulations to those of you entrusted with leadership positions and all of your militants at every level whose defence of the Party, its program and organizing principles have made sure the Party prevails through all the twists and turns of each historical moment.
The PCdoB was founded in the crucible of events taking place in the wake of the victory of the Great October Socialist Revolution in 1917, leading to the founding of the Soviet Union in 1922, the same momentous year of its own founding. Since then, Brazilian communists have fought to be a distinct contingent of the International Communist and Workers’ Movement as a party with its own head, which stands on its own two feet. This has created the PCdoB as a strong party which is resilient, experienced, revolutionary. Integral to Brazil’s modern history, it has proven itself capable of leading key fights of the people for peace, democracy and freedom, earning great respect at home and abroad.
On this occasion, permit us to pay deepest respects to all the comrades who gave their lives and proved the Party’s mettle leading fights against the dictatorships under the most difficult conditions. Also to those who were no less courageous in defending Marxism-Leninism and communism in Brazil and internationally during the turning point which emerged in the 1960s and then again in the 1989-1990 period through to today.
Our Party greatly values the relations of profound friendship forged between our leader Comrade Hardial Bains, who passed away in 1997, and the legendary leader of the PCdoB, Comrade João Amazonas. We were honoured to have Comrade Amazonas with us in Canada at our Fifth Congress in 1987, at which time he was able to travel from Vancouver to Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa and become familiar with our Party’s work as well as the kind of democracy which exists in Canada which still has the Queen of England as head of state.
So too, the visit of Comrade Bains to Brazil in 1992 and 1995 at the invitation of the PCdoB and the exchanges of Party delegations at Party Congresses, both in Canada and in Brazil, allowed us to share experiences and appreciate the conditions in each country and the heroic battles and concerns of our peoples. Our Party will never forget the actions taken by PCdoB to counter the Canadian government’s anti-communist, anti-democratic and racist refusal to give citizenship to Comrade Bains, and oppose his persecution which also affected his family. Thanks to the efforts of PCdoB to get the signatures of 72 members of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies and Senate, the government of Canada reversed its position on citizenship.
Today, with the battle for peace, freedom and democracy raging on the world scale and the peoples fighting to humanize the natural and social environment in every country, we wish you every success in the vital work of building the broad front of the Brazilian people united in action to ensure the defeat of Bolsonaro and the destructive actions of the neo-liberal elite who brought him to power. Their wrecking, inhuman activities to impose their brutal anti-national and anti-people agenda has taken a toll on the sovereignty, rights and well-being of the people. Your glorious history imbues our Party with confidence that your steady hand, theory and practice will have great import in opening Brazil’s path to progress.
You can count on CPC(M-L) and the Canadian working class and people in your fight. May the relations between our two parties and two peoples flourish!
Red Salute to PCdoB!
