Gaza Tribunal in Sarajevo Demands End to
Palestinian
Genocide,
Zionism and Impunity
The Gaza Tribunal in Sarajevo, Bosnia, took place over three days from May 26 to 29, 2025. This was the second of three sessions of the Gaza Tribunal, the first of which was held in London in November 2024. The tribunal is led by Richard Falk, international law expert and former UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories Occupied since 1967. The aim of the Gaza Tribunal is to provide a platform for the comprehensive examination of legal, ethical, and geopolitical dimensions of the ongoing crises in the Gaza Strip through the lens of international law and human rights. Although it lacks official standing within the UN or other international fora and the capacity to enforce international law, the Tribunal follows in the tradition of other "people's tribunals" from Vietnam to Iraq held to hold those responsible for crimes to account according to the demands of international law.
In his opening remarks Professor Falk noted: "The Gaza tribunal is devoted to bearing witness to Israel's crimes against the peoples of Gaza. Beyond this, the purpose of the tribunal is to add whatever it can to the torment and outrage of people around the world to bring the Gaza ordeal of death and destruction to a rapid end by urging action to be taken in the name of our common humanity."
The Gaza Tribunal was held at Sarajevo International University. It included sessions on the political economy of genocide and Gaza's destruction, the crime of starvation, the role of the international system in the age of genocide, people's tribunals, the destruction of Gaza's civilian infrastructure and the criminalization of student protests. It heard from legal scholars, human rights experts, journalists, and survivors to bring attention to grave breaches of international law and human conscience.
One of the opening speakers, Dr. Nimer Sultany, a law professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, condemned what he described as a global reluctance to name Palestine's colonial reality.
He told the tribunal: "Palestine is a clear case in which the naming of the colonial condition has been delayed, or avoided, for so long. For too long."
Sultany accused Western governments of complicity in Gaza's destruction by failing to act, and warned against revisionist narratives that portray recent Israeli statements as anomalies.
"Israeli officials have not suddenly become extreme," he said. "They have long shaped and supported the war policy."
Other testimony came from Dr. Thaer Ahmad, a Palestinian-American physician who worked at Nasser Hospital in Gaza earlier this year. He described "mass casualty events happening multiple times a day," with most victims being women and children. Dr. Ahmad said: "There is no hospital in the United States, no hospital in Chicago, that would have been able to function had they seen the same volume that was being seen at Nasser hospital."
He also shared his experience of treating victims of airstrikes, building collapses, and gunfire, noting that much of Khan Younis was being "systematically levelled."
Heidi Matthews, Assistant Professor of Law at Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in Toronto, pointed out that there is a disproportionate killing of women and children in Gaza and an organized effort to prevent the birth of Palestinian children. Professor Matthews pointed out that on average 21.3 women are killed every day. She also provided evidence of the effects of forced displacement on women, especially pregnant women and post-partum and lactating mothers, with 60,000 pregnant women repeatedly displaced. She also noted Israel's direct targeting of women and children by the destruction of sexual and reproductive health care facilities, hospital maternity wards, as well as the use of starvation as a weapon of war which has resulted in 4,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women suffering from severe malnutrition and the number of children suffering acute malnutrition which has increased by more than 80 per cent in March alone.
Professor Maryam Jamshidi, a legal scholar at the University of Colorado, explained that Israel is carrying out a "systematic and deliberate" assault on the core rules of international humanitarian law (IHL). She said Israel has violated all four principles meant to protect civilians in war -- distinction, military necessity, proportionality, and humanity -- and that this disregard for the law is central to its genocidal strategy.
Jamshidi cited Israel's designation of "the entirety of North Gaza as a military objective" and noted that 80 per cent of the Strip is now treated as a no-go zone. She noted that this strategy "depends on the holistic dismantling of IHL's civilian protection rules in order to destroy the conditions of life necessary to the Palestinian people's survival."
Following its Sarajevo session, the Gaza Tribunal issued its Declaration. It will continue to gather evidence, testimonials and expert statements for the third and final session of the Gaza Tribunal to be held in October 2025 in Istanbul where a "Jury of Conscience" will present its findings.

Global March to Gaza
A
People's March for Justice
Thousands of activists from over 35 countries including Canada are participating in the Global March to Gaza from Cairo to deliver aid and break Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip. They include doctors, artists, aid workers, lawyers, journalists, nurses and people from all walks of life.
Israel is preventing all humanitarian aid from crossing into Gaza with hundreds of trucks carrying food and medical supplies blocked from crossing into Gaza at the Rafah crossing in the southern Gaza Strip. Aid agencies have reported that approximately 171,000 metric tons of pre-positioned food, enough to feed two million people in Gaza for three to four months, remain blocked from entering Gaza.
Over a thousand people from North African countries began a land journey from central Tunis through Libya to Egypt on June 9. The Al Samoud (resilience) convoy which started with over a thousand people traveling in 12 buses and 100 vehicles has been joined by many more along the way and in Cairo will join the thousands who are part of the Global March to Gaza.
Marchers are calling for an "immediate end to the genocide in Gaza, a total embargo on Israel, and total boycott from the military, economic, cultural network of Israeli violence, occupation and apartheid." Organizers say they hope the march will pressure international institutions to take immediate action to stop the humanitarian crisis worsening each day in Gaza.
Dr. Huseyin Durmaz, from Türkiye and a member of the International Health Initiative, confirmed that the campaign will begin in Cairo on June 12, move toward the Rafah crossing on June 13, hold rallies on June 14, and culminate in a large protest on June 15. Participants plan to remain in tents near the crossing until June 20.
The Global March to Gaza underscores the necessity for the international community to cut all ties with Israel for its criminal genocide in Gaza and to work to open the Rafah crossing to enable aid to be delivered to the Palestinians.

Freedom Flotilla Defies Israeli Blockade of Gaza
The vessel Madleen,
the lead ship of the Freedom Flotilla
2025 bringing medical and other supplies to Gaza, was intercepted and
seized by Israeli
forces on June 10 in international waters about 185 km from Gaza. Among
the 12
detained crew members, from France, Türkiye, Sweden, Spain and the
Netherlands, were
Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan, Al Jazeera Journalist
Omar Faiad and climate activist Greta Thunberg. Al Jazeera
reported that
Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir instructed prison
authorities to hold
the 12 in solitary confinement in the port city of Ashdod where they
had been
taken.
As of June 11, four of the activists detained have been deported
while the others remain in detention. A statement issued by the Freedom
Flotilla Coalition (FFC) reads: "Israel is handling the custody of all
12 as though they had entered illegally -- even though they were
forcibly abducted from international waters and brought into Israel
against their will."
"Each of the volunteers was given two
options: sign documents consenting to deportation, or remain in
detention and appear before a tribunal. The FFC had encouraged some
volunteers, if given the option, to agree to expedited deportation in
order to restore access to communication -- including the ability to
speak freely and advocate for their fellow participants.
"All of
them explicitly disputed the claim of unlawful entry in writing,
affirming that Israeli law does not apply to them, that their mission
was humanitarian in nature, and that both the boat’s interception
and their detention are illegal."
The attack on the Madleen followed an earlier drone attack on another Freedom Flotilla ship, Conscience, on May 2 off the coast of Malta where it was to pick up supplies and 44 passengers.
Huwaida Arraf, human rights attorney and Freedom Flotilla organizer, said in a June 9 press release from the coalition, "This seizure blatantly violates international law and defies the ICJ's [International Court of Justice] binding orders requiring unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza."
The press release ends:
"We demand:
- An end to the illegal and deadly siege of Gaza.
- The immediate release of all abducted volunteers;
- The immediate delivery of humanitarian aid directly to Palestinians that is independent of the control of the occupying power
- Full accountability for the military assaults on Madleen and Conscience;
"Governments must fulfill their obligations under international law and stop enabling Israel's crimes. We are undeterred. We will sail again. We will not stop until the siege ends and Palestine is free."

Palestinian Resistance Continues to Inflict Severe Losses on Israeli Occupation Forces
Palestinian Resistance organizations continue to inflict heavy casualties on the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), carrying out deadly ambushes and other actions in various parts of Gaza.
Al-Quds
Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, announced
on June 6 that it had carried out a joint bombardment operation with
al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Resistance
Movement Hamas. The operation targeted an Israeli military command and
control center near the Canada Hall, southeast of Khan Younis, using
heavy-calibre mortar shells.
The Palestinian Resistance group also released video footage documenting Israeli military vehicles operating northwest of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, where fighters executed a highly precise ambush with a high-powered, armour-piercing explosive device.
Additionally, al-Quds Brigades announced successfully detonating a highly explosive barrel bomb targeting an Israeli vehicle in Gemmayze Street, in Kaf al-Qarara in northern Khan Younis.
Israeli media sources reported that five IOF soldiers were killed and twelve others sustained serious injuries in Khan Younis when explosives which had been planted in a building where forces from the elite Maglan Special Operations unit were stationed were detonated.
According to Israeli media, the troops followed the required protocol to ensure the building was not booby-trapped but failed to find the planted explosives, noting that the IOF is stuck in a cycle of repetition, "returning to the same locations, repeating the same tactics, and failing to produce measurable results."
The Zionist military authorities issued a media blackout on the incident's details while confirming the casualties were members of elite special forces units.
On June 2, al-Qassam Brigades used a drone to drop a bomb on soldiers in Shuja'iyya amidst ongoing fierce clashes, inflicting casualties on the IOF.
Israeli news outlets described the week of June 2 as one of the "most difficult" since December/January of last year, with more than eight IOF soldiers killed in three days.
Prior to that, Al
Mayadeen reported that Resistance fighters detonated a premises housing Israeli occupation soldiers, wounding at least 10
troops,
with one soldier still unaccounted for.
Israeli media reported as well the death of a soldier from the Yahalom combat engineering unit during fighting in southern Gaza. The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation quoted the commander of the 77th Battalion in Khan Younis who said that the Palestinian Resistance fighters "are rigging roads with explosives and relying heavily on ambush tactics," adding that "nearly every building is booby-trapped."

Unprecedented Crimes of U.S./ Zionist Forces Increase Israel's Isolation
A new global survey from the U.S.-based Pew Research Centre indicates that after 20 months of genocide against the Palestinian people, the Zionist state of Israel is increasingly isolated and viewed negatively in the international community. What is significant is that more and more people, particularly in North America and Western Europe, where Israel has received most of its financial, military and political support, have a negative view of Israel, isolating it and its enablers.
On June 3, Pew reported: "In 20 of the 24 countries surveyed,
around half of adults or
more have an unfavourable view of Israel. Around three-quarters or more
hold this view in
Australia, Greece, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and
Turkey."
Pew reports that since 2013, when it last conducted the survey, in seven of the 10 countries it surveyed this time around, "the share of adults with a negative view of Israel has increased significantly."
Israel was most unpopular in Turkey, with 93 per cent of respondents viewing it unfavourably. Turkey was the only country in the immediate region of Palestine to be surveyed by Pew.
Among European countries surveyed, Israel was viewed most negatively in the Netherlands (78 per cent), a notable fact in a country whose governments have traditionally been staunchly pro-Israel.
Even in Hungary, whose leader Viktor Orban welcomed Benjamin Netanyahu to Budapest earlier this year in spite of the international arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister, 53 per cent of the public views Israel negatively.
There has been what is called a "historic shift" in the U.S. -- Israel's largest financial and military supporter, with 53 per cent of those surveyed now having a negative view of Israel, an 11-point increase since 2022. The increase is mainly among U.S. youth, in particular national minorities, but the trend is seen across the entire population.
An article by Ali Abudimah published by the Electronic Intifada notes that the criminalization of those who stand with Palestine and "the turn to heavy-handed censorship, not just in the U.S. but across Europe, is also an admission that efforts to equate disapproval of Israel's crimes with anti-Semitism, or to burnish its brand with expensive PR campaigns, can do nothing against the horrific reality streamed daily from Gaza to people's phones."
It notes that recently Ireland became the first Western
country and member of the
European Union (EU) to declare at the highest level that Israel is
engaged in genocide in
Gaza. It is pointed out that public pressure is forcing the European
Union itself to "review"
its economic relations with Israel, noting that until recently the EU
bragged about adopting its
17th sanctions "package" against Russia since 2022, but has done little
to sanction Israel.
The Electronic Intifada notes that Spain, another EU member, recently cancelled a $310 million arms purchase from Israeli weapons company Rafael, as part of moves "to reduce Spain's reliance on Israeli defense technology in light of Israel's ongoing military operations in Gaza." According to the Pew survey, 75 per cent of the Spanish people hold a negative view of Israel.
The Electronic Intifada notes that while these are small changes, none of this would have happened without the "vocal public outrage" against governments that are complicit in Israel's crimes, and concludes that these actions must continue and are more important that ever in ending the genocide.
U.S. Vetoes UN Security Council Resolution
Calling
for Ceasefire in
Gaza
In a criminal move and to shore up its ongoing support for the Zionist state of Israel, the U.S. vetoed a June 4 UN Security Council draft resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The resolution was co-sponsored by all 10 elected members of the UN Security Council; Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Panama, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Somalia. The resolution received the support of Security Council permanent members China, Russia, Britain and France.
Had it been adopted, the resolution would have demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza to be respected by all parties.
The text reaffirmed the UN Security Council's earlier call for the "immediate, dignified and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups."
The resolution also expressed grave concern over the "catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza" following months of almost total Israeli aid blockade, including the risk of famine, highlighted by recent assessments by international food security experts.
It reaffirmed the obligation of all parties to comply with international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law.
In addition to a ceasefire, the draft resolution demanded the "immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions" on the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, calling for safe and unhindered access for UN and humanitarian partners across the enclave.
It also urged the restoration of essential services, in accordance with humanitarian principles and prior Security Council resolutions.
The resolution expressed support for ongoing mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to revive the phased ceasefire framework outlined in resolution 2735 (2024), which envisions a permanent cessation of hostilities, the release of all hostages, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, the return of all remains, full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza, and the start of a long-term reconstruction plan.
Speaking ahead of the vote, acting U.S. Representative Dorothy Shea declared the draft resolution "unacceptable for what it does say, it is unacceptable for what it does not say, and it is unacceptable for the manner in which it has been advanced." The "U.S. has been clear that we would not support any measure that fails to condemn Hamas and does not call for Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza," she declared.
China's Ambassador to the UN Fu Cong said Israel's actions have "crossed every red line" of international humanitarian law and seriously violated UN resolutions, adding, "Yet, due to the shielding by one country, these violations have not been stopped or held accountable."

Virulent Supporter of
Genocide Elected
President of UN General
Assembly
It is most unfortunate that on June 2, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted in a secret ballot to elect former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock president of its 80th session which starts on September 10, for a one-year term. German diplomat Helga Schmid had been nominated for the position of President of the UNGA in July 2024 but Germany withdrew her nomination in favour of Baerbock earlier this year. Baerbock received 167 votes with seven write-in votes for Helga Schmid. Fourteen countries abstained.
Baerbock is an ardent supporters of Israel's occupation and
genocide of the Palestinian people. She is a champion of Israel's
"right to self-defence," and, as Foreign Minister of Germany from
December 2021 until May 6 this year she was instrumental in
Germany's supplying Israel with German weapons and funds, second
only to the U.S.
In the German Parliament on October 14, 2024, one year into the
Israeli siege and genocide in Gaza, she justified Israel's
genocidal bombing of Gaza, saying, "[S]elf-defence means, of
course, not only attacking terrorists, but also destroying them.
This is why I have made it so clear that when Hamas terrorists
hide behind people, behind schools, then we end up in very
difficult waters. But we're not shying away from this. This is why
I made it clear at the United Nations that civilian sites could
lose their protected status if terrorists abuse this status.
That's what Germany stands for -- and that's what we mean when we
refer to Israel's security."
In response to these remarks justifying Israeli attacks on civilian sites, more than 300 academics co-signed a letter calling for a retraction and apology. An online petition calling for her resignation was signed by thousands of people.
Former UN human rights official Craig Mokhiber said on social media about Baerbock's election as President of the UNGA, "The United Nations was born in opposition to German war criminals. Today, it has elected a German war criminal to oversee its accelerating decline. Eighty years later, the Reich takes its revenge with Annalena Baerbock as UNGA President, in the midst of a genocide that she has enthusiastically abetted."
Normally, election to the Presidency of the UNGA is by acclamation but this year Russia insisted that it be by secret ballot given Baerbock's unacceptable positions. Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, noted that "Baerbock has repeatedly proved her incompetence, extreme bias and lack of understanding of the basic principles of diplomacy." He added: "The decision of the authorities in Berlin to push through her candidacy... is no less than spitting in the face of the world organization and showing a blatant disregard for it."
Canada voted in favour of Baerbock, noting on a social media account for its mission to the UN: "Congratulations to Germany's Annalena Baerbock for her election to the position of President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly! Canada looks forward to working with her during her term."

Ottawa, June 9, 2025
Ottawa
People gathered May 21 in front of the Prime Minister's Office to demand an end to the genocide and an arms embargo. Similar actions have been ongoing since May 20, in response to ceaseless attacks of IOF forces and the imminent death by starvation of Palestinian children.
On May 25, the eve of Charles III's visit to Ottawa, members of the Palestinian community called for an action to "greet" him on his way from the airport to downtown Ottawa. The next day, people gathered along the Airport Parkway with Palestinian flags and signs at noon. As they waited, drivers of a large number of the cars streaming by honked their horns in support. Around 2:00 pm, when a procession of police cars and vehicles arrived, the people shouted, "Free, Free Palestine!"

A militant demonstration was organized on May 27 to denounce the visit of Gilad Erdan, Israel's former Ambassador to the United Nations and potential future prime minister. He was hosted at Casa Loma by the Abraham Global Peace Initiative. Casa Loma, a museum owned by the City of Toronto, is a popular venue for weddings and conferences, and a filming location for movies and television.
The City of Toronto allowed its venue to be used to host a war criminal, an ardent defender of the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. It also mobilized dozens of heavily armed police to harass and assault demonstrators and shield participants in the event from the protest.
Demonstrators called for an immediate arms embargo, an end to the siege of Gaza and to the occupation of Palestine. They denounced the war criminal Erdan and called for his arrest, as well as Casa Loma and the City of Toronto for hosting him.
Drivers of dozens of cars passing by raised their fists, made peace signs and honked their horns in support of the protest which affirmed No Genocide Ambassador Is Welcome in Our City!
More than 300 people participated in a Toronto action June 5 in support of the Palestinians on Arafa Day, an important day in the Muslim faith when, traditionally, millions participate in the pilgrimage to Mecca and others observe a day of prayer and reflection. This year, once again, they are forced to face a horrendous genocide taking place in Palestine.
Gathering at the Israeli consulate, steps from the intersection of Bloor and Yonge, the participants waved their flags and chanted slogans, drowning out the small group of Zionists across the road, where they were protected by a phalanx of police.
Speakers at the action pointed out that 607 days since the Zionist genocide against the Palestinians began, the Resistance and the people continue to stand firm and steadfast against efforts by the U.S.-backed Israeli regime to exterminate them. The occupation forces continue to bomb and kill Palestinian men, women and children, in the health centres and in the places where the U.S./Zionists have set up fraudulent aid dispensing depots, in complete violation of international humanitarian law, acting with impunity. The Carney government was repeatedly denounced for continuing to support the Zionist state.
Following the speeches and accompanied by drumming, participants marched down Yonge Street to Dundas Square, chanting slogans that could be heard for blocks around and gathering support as the march progressed. From the River to the Sea Palestine Will be Free!, Arms Embargo Now! Carney, Carney Shame on You! You're Complicit in Killing Babies Too! One, We are the People! Two, We Won't Be Silenced! Three, Stop the Bombing, Now, Now, Now, Now! echoed through the streets.
At the end of the action, the speakers pointed out that for these 607 days the Canadian state has tried to silence the Palestinian resistance in Canada using the police, the courts and the media, and that it has been unsuccessful. The Canadian people have shown the whole world that their support for the Palestinian people continues to grow and they demand that the Canadian government be accountable, uphold its responsibilities under international law and stand with the just cause of the Palestinians. The organizers called on everyone to continue to speak out, join in actions and support charities that are involved in supporting the people of Gaza who continue to defy the occupation and defend their right to be.

Oakville
Some 60 people held an hour-long rally at the Oakville constituency office of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on May 21 demanding that Canada immediately impose a two-way arms embargo and cut off all support to the Zionist state. The action was organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, Oakville for Palestine and others.
The speakers pointed out that Anand has refused to respond to her constituents' demands these last 18 months of the U.S./Israeli genocide. As the new Foreign Minister, she can no longer be silent as Israel undertakes its latest bombing and ground assaults on the embattled people of Gaza which have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, and the destruction of hospitals, shelters and camps. A speaker from the Palestinian Youth Movement called out Anand for walking back her statement last week that Israel is using the lack of food as a political tool in Gaza. They demanded that she show courage, that she stand up for principles, including principles of international and humanitarian law that Canada is obliged to uphold.
A health care worker shared messages sent to the outside world from health care workers in Gaza about their experiences as the Zionist entity bombs and strafes their hospitals. In one case, two Gazans left a hospital after being treated for wounds, only to be shot dead outside the building.
Between speakers the crowd chanted: Arms Embargo Now!; Anita, Anita You Can't Hide, You're Complicit in Genocide!; From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will be Free! and many other slogans.
The organizers called on everyone to continue to speak out against Canada's cowardly stand in support of the Israeli aggressors. More actions are planned at the Minister's constituency office to hold her and the Canadian government accountable for their continuing support for genocide.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside Parliament in London on Wednesday, June 4, for the Red Line for Palestine protest, demanding a full arms embargo and sanctions against Israel. The protest was organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) and took place during Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) in the House of Commons.
Protesters, dressed in red, formed a human chain encircling Parliament, chanting slogans such as Stop Arming Israel! and Full Embargo Now!, wrapping Parliament with long red fabric. A large banner reading "Starving children is a red line" was displayed. Several MPs and celebrities joined the demonstration, including British actor Khalid Abdalla and MP John McDonnell, who called the protest "fundamentally important."
Prime Minister Keir Starmer addressed Parliament during the protest, describing Israel's military actions as "appalling, counterproductive, and intolerable". Although he stated that Britain had imposed sanctions, suspended free trade negotiations, and was considering further measures, this could not hide the government's complicity in US-Israeli genocide in Gaza, and Starmer's covering over Britain's supplying arms to Israel.
The demonstration lasted for several hours and throughout Starmer's entire speech to Parliament, with protesters forming a cordon stretching from Parliament to Westminster Bridge and back. Organizers emphasized that their "red line" symbolized the need for the government to establish clear boundaries regarding Israel's actions in Gaza.
