Global March to Gaza
A People's March for Justice
Thousands of activists from over 35 countries including Canada are participating in the Global March to Gaza from Cairo to deliver aid and break Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip. They include doctors, artists, aid workers, lawyers, journalists, nurses and people from all walks of life.
Israel is preventing all humanitarian aid from crossing into Gaza with hundreds of trucks carrying food and medical supplies blocked from crossing into Gaza at the Rafah crossing in the southern Gaza Strip. Aid agencies have reported that approximately 171,000 metric tons of pre-positioned food, enough to feed two million people in Gaza for three to four months, remain blocked from entering Gaza.
Over a thousand people from North African countries began a land journey from central Tunis through Libya to Egypt on June 9. The Al Samoud (resilience) convoy which started with over a thousand people traveling in 12 buses and 100 vehicles has been joined by many more along the way and in Cairo will join the thousands who are part of the Global March to Gaza.
Marchers are calling for an "immediate end to the genocide in Gaza, a total embargo on Israel, and total boycott from the military, economic, cultural network of Israeli violence, occupation and apartheid." Organizers say they hope the march will pressure international institutions to take immediate action to stop the humanitarian crisis worsening each day in Gaza.
Dr. Huseyin Durmaz, from Türkiye and a member of the International Health Initiative, confirmed that the campaign will begin in Cairo on June 12, move toward the Rafah crossing on June 13, hold rallies on June 14, and culminate in a large protest on June 15. Participants plan to remain in tents near the crossing until June 20.
The Global March to Gaza underscores the necessity for the international community to cut all ties with Israel for its criminal genocide in Gaza and to work to open the Rafah crossing to enable aid to be delivered to the Palestinians.
