New Proposal by Egypt and Qatar for Ending the Genocidal War in Gaza
On March 28, Egypt and Qatar advanced a new proposal for ending the genocidal war in Gaza. Discussions on the proposal are said to be at an "advanced stage" according to the head of Hamas in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya.
On the same day, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty confirmed that consensus had been reached on the members of the non-partisan committee set to oversee the administration of the Gaza Strip during a six-month transitional period.
"The committee would assume its responsibilities immediately upon agreement to prevent any propaganda efforts by the enemy," Al-Hayya said.
He stressed that "true to form," the Israeli Occupation had "stalled and evaded and sabotaged all mediation efforts to secure a comprehensive ceasefire and full withdrawal from Gaza." Not surprising, Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the new proposal by Egypt and Qatar by repeating that Israel is only prepared to discuss ending its genocidal war on condition that Hamas lay down its weapons and for its leaders to leave Gaza.
Al-Hayya said in these negotiations the Resistance is seeking international assurances that the violence in Gaza will not resume. The Resistance will not disarm and will not surrender.
Committing to work to realize the latest proposals of Egypt and Qatar is in keeping with its three key objectives according to the Resistance: first, ending Israeli aggression; second, unifying Palestinians to build on the gains of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation; and third, coordinating with all Palestinian organizations to achieve their fundamental rights -- including establishing a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and guaranteeing refugees' right of return.
"We will never accept humiliation or disgrace for our people -- no displacement and no expulsion. The Resistance weapons are a red line, intrinsically linked to the continuation of the occupation and the aspiration to establish an independent Palestinian state. As long as the occupation persists, these weapons will remain a safeguard for our people and their state, protecting their rights and resources," al-Hayya said. "We say frankly to those who believe that Hamas and the Resistance organizations might abandon their responsibilities or leave their people to an uncertain fate dictated by the occupation: you are delusional," al-Hayya said.
