China Protests U.S. Missile Sale to Taiwan
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the planned sale of the Avenger anti-aircraft missile system by the U.S. to Taiwan violates the Communiqués governing relations between China and the U.S. The Ministry asked the American government to stop the deal, warning of possible repercussions. In response the U.S. State Department argued that the system was purely defensive and "consistent with U.S. policy on arms sales to Taiwan."
Just last week U.S. imperialism allowed a transit visa for stopovers in New York for Vice-President and Premier of Taiwan, Lien Chan. The Chinese denounced this provocation as an attempt to reestablish the "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan" policy.
The planned sale to Taiwan of sophisticated military systems is a further provocation that will only increase tension. Arms sales such as these by U.S. imperialism are another factor for a cataclysmic world war.
