2013 Photo Review
One Class One Program
July
TML Daily is continuing its photo
review of workers, women and other collectives in action throughout
2013, to fight for the rights of all, defend social programs and public
right, and oppose imperialist aggression. July is the month the Montreal Maine and
Atlantic train derailed and exploded in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, killing
47 people and injuring many more, also destroying the entire downtown
area. This brought to light the criminal deregulation regime authorized
by the Harper government and began to reveal the large number of
derailments which take place across the country as a result of the
increased exploitation of labour, speed-ups, relaxed safety standards,
etc. In July, working people in BC and Ontario
organized to intervene in provincial by-elections. In BC, the aim was
to prevent Christy Clark from taking a seat in the Legislature after BC
workers saw to it she lost her seat during the provincial election. In
Ontario, following the resignation of Premier McGuinty and various
of
his cabinet ministers, five seats were vacated. The call was given to
go all out to defeat the Liberals and PCs as the two parties
spearheading the austerity agenda and this campaign succeeds in two
ridings, Windsor-Tecumseh and London West.
