Confederation Building in Ottawa Occupied to Demand Arms Embargo Now
More than 100 Canadian Jews and their allies organized a sit-in at the Confederation Building in Ottawa, which houses the offices of many members of Parliament. They demanded an end to Canada's complicity in genocide in Gaza and an immediate arms embargo. Canadian monopolies export weapons and military parts to the United States, which are then supplied to Israel. The U.S./Zionist warplanes and attack helicopters could not fly without hundreds of Canadian-made components. Protesters made clear that the destruction raining down on the people of Gaza is done with support of the Canadian government and must end. They demanded a two-way arms embargo on Israel and the cancellation of all active military export permits to Israel.
The occupation of the building lasted about two hours. Police removed people from the building and protesters then continued demonstrating outside.
Jews Say No to Genocide, a coalition of several organizations, was
the main organizer. Like many across Canada and the U.S. their stand is
that the genocide in Gaza is Not in Our Name and that they stand firm
for Palestinian liberation.
