International Women’s Day 2022
Women in the Forefront Opening the Door to Society’s Progress and to
Make Canada a Zone for Peace
The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) sends revolutionary regards to all fighting women in this country and around the world on this International Women’s Day. Red salute to all the communist women in the Party whose leadership is indispensable!
This year, March 8th marks the 111th anniversary of the first International Women’s Day in 1911. At that time, on the eve of the First World War, already working women were becoming conscious of the need to coordinate their struggle and express unity for their cause worldwide. Throughout Europe women held demonstrations demanding peace.
On February 28, 1909 women textile workers in New York had issued the call for an international day of solidarity of all working women, following which the Socialist International meeting in Denmark in 1910 reiterated this demand. The March 8 demonstrations in Europe set the precedent when women of all countries in the world would express their unity with one another in their struggle for emancipation. Since then the women in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean as well as Oceania have joined and played the decisive roles in all the struggles of their peoples for peace, freedom and democracy.
Women everywhere are marking International Women’s Day with their heads held high for the honourable role they have played in the van of society on every front this past year. As the pandemic continues to cause havoc over the lives of all the people as well as families and individuals, women’s fight for the rights of all has set the tone. Now, with the dangers the U.S. and NATO are posing to escalate the war danger, women also stand in the van opposing their warmongering, lies and disinformation and contributing to the cause of peace, freedom and democracy.
On this day we celebrate the valour of the women everywhere who are fulfilling leading roles in all spheres of life. This year we salute them all, in this country particularly those at places of work, those fighting for the rights of migrant workers, guest and immigrant workers as well as victims of violence and abuse. We salute all Indigenous women in the forefront of upholding their peoples’ hereditary rights and lives against the violence of the state and its agencies and institutions. And to the young women fighting to humanize the natural and social environment so as to create a bright future for the coming generations, Red Salute as well!
We send a special lal salaam, red salute, to the grandmothers, mothers and sisters in Punjab and India who continue to play a heroic role in the fight of the farmers against the Modi government and the system called a democracy which enshrines the dispossession and oppression of the working people, violence against women, corruption and entitlements.
Their brilliant example stands as a beacon to all women in all the countries and war zones who are fighting for the right of their peoples to be.
In Canada, as in the United States and elsewhere, women are in the forefront of the struggle against the neo-liberal anti-social offensive. They are involved in finding solutions for some of the most important problems facing society, whether of poverty and unemployment, education and health, escalating social violence and state organized racial discrimination and violence as well as the specific issues related to being mothers who give rise to the coming generations.
Everywhere, they are in the forefront of opening a path for the progress of society by demanding that the formal recognition of women’s rights be given concrete recognition as well. The fact that women’s rights are on the agenda at every level of society and in international fora of world governments, is thanks to the women’s movement for emancipation. By putting themselves in the front ranks of the work for political renewal, the striving of the people for empowerment makes headway.
This involvement of women in the vanguard of the struggle is one of the most important positive developments in the effort to open the door for the progress of society. It is also one of the most important steps women have taken towards their own affirmation.
Bravo to all the women who have once again shown what they are made of in the past year. The struggle of women in this country and around the entire world is one of the most decisive for entire humanity. Women’s rights must be given not only a constitutional guarantee in all countries but enabling legislation must be passed to realize these rights in practice.
We are certain that the day is not far off when, thanks to the participation of women at the head of the working class movement for emancipation, they will achieve their rights and, in doing so, the world will be able to celebrate the emancipation of the whole of humanity.
Celebrate International Women’s Day!
All Out to Support Women in the Forefront of the Fight for the Rights of All!
