Video: Sacha, a Child of Chernobyl
(44:24. Spanish, Ukrainian and English audio, with English subtitles. Cuban production, 2020)
The 1986 nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine affected many children. With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990, these children were not able to receive the necessary treatment for their conditions arising from radiation exposure. Since 1990, despite its own hardships during this time, Cuba has provided treatment to more than 25,000 people affected by the disaster, of whom 21,340 were children. The film is introduced by Cuba’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Lianys Torres Rivera.
