June 26 marks the completion of the seventh month of the sit-ins and encampments establish at the borders of Delhi in India. The farmers are holding Save Farming Day. Farmers, workers and other toilers are holding demonstrations in front of government offices and giving memoranda to governors in different states and to the President of India in Delhi.

Indian residents abroad and their friends across the globe are also holding demonstrations, rallies and other manifestations in support of farmers under the signboard Save Farming. The militant actions are defending freedom of speech which is under vicious attack in India by the present administration.

The occasion also marks the completion of the sowing of paddy (rice). This means that more people will join the Morchas (encampments). The women have taken the lead in looking after sowing the paddy so that no-one should worry about the paddy and the farmers could continue being present at the encampments. Just like they harvested wheat and other crops in April and May, they looked after the paddy, proudly standing second to none. The farmers also warned that the government and its agents are trying to split workers and farmers by arbitrarily fixing wages for paddy sowing. Farmers pointed out that this struggle is for the rights of 99 per cent of the people of India who depend on the farmers for food. If the three anti-farmer laws are implemented their misery will double and triple, they pointed out.

At the encampments, during the general meetings, speaker after speaker calls upon farmers and workers to be watchful as the ruling elite is planning to drown their just struggles in blood by organizing communal violence based on religion and caste. They also celebrated the anniversary of Bhagat Kabir Ji on June 24, 2021 at the encampments. Kabir, a weaver, was a great teacher of all the oppressed people and a leader of the Bhakti movement in the 15th century which raised the voice of the people against all oppression. They also called upon people to defend the rights of all and condemned the criminalization of dissent.

On the 46th anniversary of National Emergency of India on June 25, the farmers called upon people to unite as one and rise up against the undeclared emergency of the Modi government.
