Organizations fighting for migrant justice are calling for the abolition of the newly created Ministry of Border Security and Organized Crime (BSOC), a moratorium on deportations to Haiti and an end to deportations of all refugees and migrants crossing into Canada from the United States.
We demand the abolition of the new ministry because its creation is a transparent attempt on the part of the Trudeau government to establish a non-existent causality between organized crime and irregular migration. We reject this racist logic. People are crossing the border irregularly because the so-called Safe Third Country Agreement prevents them from applying as refugees at official border posts. They are doing it because it is no longer possible to remain in their homes. The solution to this problem is to cancel this agreement and open the border, not to put Bill Blair, the former Toronto Police Chief, in charge of irregular migration.
The injustice of Canada’s refugee system will only deepen with the creation of a ministry inspired by the repressive U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — the federal police agency used by President Trump to oppress families fleeing from various threats. There is no need for this new ministry to exist! To resolve the problem, Canada only needs to stop the repressive practices of the Canadian Border Services Agency … and,
Stop calling in Haitian refugees on Saturdays to force them to choose a deportation date.
Stop detaining refugees and immigrants.
Stop deporting them.
Stop forcing families to live in the shadows, prey to exploitation and the threat of arrest.
Give status to all, now!
Join us in front the Immigration Canada offices at 1010 St-Antoine, Saturday, August 4 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon to demand an immediate moratorium on deportations to Haiti, the abolition of BSOC and an end to deportations as a weapon of mass repression!
Stop deportations! No more case-by-case deportations! Status for All! ALL Refugees Welcome!
