First Anniversary of 9/11
Put the Work to Politically Organize
the People in First Place!
- Statement of the Communist Party of
Canada (Marxist-Leninist),
September 11, 2002 -
On the occasion of the first anniversary of the
September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, the Communist
Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) is putting main emphasis on the work
to politically organize the working class and people to take control of
their lives. Meetings, discussions and interventions by Party
organizations, members and supporters will focus on defeating the
attempts by the official circles and their media in Canada, the United
States and other countries to keep the working people as mere
spectators as they further unleash their all-sided anti-social
offensive and the U.S. prepares to unleash a destructive war against
Iraq, perpetuate the genocide against the Palestinian people and
embroil the entire world in anarchy and chaos.
During this period it is clear that there are great
difficulties - not least of which is the entire official disinformation
campaign which does not reflect even a particle of truth about the
contemporary reality and its needs. The entire coverage on the events
related to 9-11 reveals the influence of this liquidationist pressure
on the society. As the all-sided crisis of capitalism continues to
deepen and broaden at an ever more rapid rate and the contention
between the big powers for their hegemony of the world is marked by the
insistence of the U.S. to impose its dictate through force, the main
aim of the disinformation campaign is to target and criminalize all
those fighting for justice while presenting those who are hellbent on
destruction in righteous colours. In this regard, the first act of
political organizing must be to oppose disinformation so that the
working class and people can orient themselves on the way forward and
enable themselves to make advance.
As its first premise, the disinformation campaign
trivializes every matter of concern. An issue is trivialized when the
serious issue involved is not identified and taken seriously; when what
is missing is not pointed out and pursued. What is the nature of this
trivialization? In the final analysis, it attempts to block people from
collectively engaging in meaningful discussion of the problems they
collectively face. This trivialization of issues tends to contribute to
the marginalization of people from politics. Any action that
trivializes an important issue, instead of clarifying the matter at
hand and encouraging people to think about it and propose solutions,
serves to mystify the problem and the solutions. It discourages people
from participating in politics and contributes to their
depoliticization. This is the essence of the disinformation campaign
surrounding 9-11, including the so-called debate over the plans of the
U.S. to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iraq. Most salient is the
disregard for the rule of law and the principles on which it is based,
including the opposition to the use of force to settle conflicts within
nations and between nations. In this regard, the disinformation
campaign focusses on issues which are meant to marginalize the working
class and people and to ensure that they do not train themselves to be
full participants in the affairs of the society so that they can
exercise control over their lives.
Opposition to the massive disinformation campaign is the
first step so that the workers and broad masses of the people emerge as
the creators of the new society which will secure their future. As the
consciousness of the people over the need to fight for their rights
deepens, along with their demand that society is duty-bound to look
after them, putting political organizing in first place is crucial.
Discussion must be aimed at mobilizing people to fight the attacks
against them and against the use of force to settle conflicts
internationally. It must highlight the justice of the cause of the
peoples of the world and raise their level of consciousness and
organization. There will be no advance unless principles are upheld and
political problems are provided with political solutions.
